Vocal Exercises

This is a collection of vocal exercises for your singing (and speaking) voice. These are exercises that I used personally and find most helpful in developing a singing voice.

Still work in progress.

Breathing Exercises

Ideally, if breathing is not a problem you won’t need to focus on breathing exercises too much. Your breath will be getting adequate workout by doing all the other exercises. There are couple exercises that I find helpful.

  • Ha Ha Ha – great at releasing the breath if it feels stuck.
  • Hissing – good breath control exercise. Works well if diaphragm is jerky.

Warm Up Exercises

Semi-occluded phonation

Semi-occluded phonations make great warm-up exercises as well, and ease you into practicing and singing. They work well because they create negative pressure that equalizes the pressure under the vocal cords thus freeing up the cords to vibrate freely.
